Hoy era el día del final de la Copa Mundial. Felicitaciones Alemania. Esta Copa ha sido particularmente interesante a mí porque es la primera copa que tuve la oportunidad a seguir pero también porque estuvo en Brasil.
Había mucha controversia sobre Brasil como el país anfitrión de la Copa Mundial como la controversia sobre los Olímpicos que va a ser en Brasil en dos años. Y como es el sujeto de mi tesis, estaba interesada en la narrativa de la Copa en los medios de comunicación y cómo Brasil podría ser interpretado.
También, me gusta el deporte de futbol. Es emocionante y es un deporte en que no es necesario tener mucho dinero para tener éxito. Estaba hinchando por Brasil a ganar la Copa pero… todos saben cómo su Copa fue.
El partido contra Alemania fue doloroso. No sólo porque la derrota fue lamentable pero también porque el equipo representó un país en que futbol es tan importante y el país sufrió mucho para albergar este torneo. Quería una narrativa en que en parte la Copa Mundial valió la pena pero en vez de esta narrativa, Brasil afrontó humillación internacional. Me interesa las implicaciones que el legado de este torneo y su derrota va a tener en los Olímpicos.
Sin embargo, la victoria final de Alemania es merecida. Los jugadores eran fantásticos y jugaron con espíritu y precisión en casi todos los partidos.
Supongo que vayamos a ser el impacto de esta Copa Mundial en Brasil y el mundo de deportes internacional.
Todavía me divertí durante esta Copa y sentí el ambiente “futbol-loco.” Fui a un bar de deportes para ver mi primer partido y miré el partido final en un bar con amigos también. (Aunque no había tanta gente cuando los Estados Unidos no estaban jugando.)

The World Cup
Today was the day of the World Cup final. Congratulations Germany. This Cup has been particularly interesting to me because it’s the first World Cup that I’ve have the opportunity to follow but also because it was in Brazil.
There was a lot of controversy about Brazil as the host country for the World Cup like the controversy about the Olympics that are going to be in Brazil in two years. And as it is the subject of my thesis, I was interested in the narrative of the Cup in the media and how Brazil would be interpreted.
Also, I like the sport of soccer. It’s exciting and it’s a sport that you don’t need a lot of money to be good at. I was rooting for Brazil to win the Cup but…everyone knows how their Cup went.
The game against Germany was painful. Not only because the loss was pitiful but also because the team represented a country in which soccer is so important and the country suffered so much to host the tournament. I wanted a narrative in which in part, the World Cup was worth it all but instead of this narrative, Brazil faced international humiliation. I’m interested in the implications that the legacy of this tournament and their loss will have on the Olympics.
However, Germany’s final victory was deserved. The players were fantastic and played with spirit and precision in nearly all of the games.
I suppose that we will see the impact of this World Cup on Brazil and the world of international sports.
Still I had fun during the Cup y experienced the “futbol-crazy”atmosphere. I went to a sports bar to see my first game and I watched the final game at a bar with friends as well. (Although there weren’t as many people as when the U.S. was playing.
